Baltimore Hepplewhite Inlaid Mahogany Sideboard, c. 1795-1800

A rectangular top with ovolo cut corners, over a case with a single silverware drawer, this all over double cupboard doors, flanked on either side by cupboard doors on. This all supported by square tapering legs. An above average example of work being done in the Federal time period in Baltimore in the late 18th century. This Baltimore Sideboard is richly veneered on the drawer and cupboard faces with the finest quality exotic crotch-grained Santo Domingo mahogany, which is all outlined with exquisite floral and line inlay.

The delicate balance of the rectangular shaped top with ovolo cut corners over a concave and serpentine shaped lower cupboard section, suggests that this piece was made by a master craftsman. The use of the floral and fine circular line inlay in the drawer fronts gives further reference for this sideboard being made in Baltimore, by a master craftsman, and for a wealthy client.
